Ty Dellandrea was acquired from the Dallas Stars via trade and although the forward wasn't expecting a move, he is excited about his new opportunity with the San Jose Sharks.

After playing 82 games in 22-23, Dellandrea's playing time was slashed dramatically as he only played 42 games last season. The 23-year-old former first-round pick hasn't found his footing offensively.

"It was hard. It was really hard. Tough to grow your game and feel like you're improving as a younger player, but working through that, I think I learned a lot," Dellandrea said. "I learned a lot about my game and what I need to improve on to be an everyday player and help teams win. So, it was tough, but I grew a lot through it."

Joe Pavelski has been a staple of the Stars' leadership over the last few seasons. Dellandrea didn't need to be asked to discuss Pavelski's impact on the trade.

"I'm excited. I'm really excited. I've heard a ton of great things. I'm really looking forward to getting down there and getting going," Dellandrea said. "Playing with Pav, who spent a lot of time [in San Jose]. [He] has a lot of good things to say. He gave some good advice and has been helpful in that department."

Pavelski's impact throughout the Stars locker room was known. The future USA Hockey Hall of Famer announced that he is likely retiring after the Stars were eliminated from the playoffs.

Dellandrea explained that Pavelski had given him connections for real estate in the area. The winger told reporters he doesn't know anyone on the Sharks roster, but Pavelski's advice has helped him find a place to settle down.

As for on the ice, Dellandrea relishes the opportunity to play with budding superstars Will Smith and Macklin Celebrini.

"It's exciting to be a part of a team that's growing and has a lot of great pieces coming in, building to be a great team," Dellandrea said. "It is really exciting to be in that door now, and work my way into this team and hopefully be a part of a future that's bright."
