Chernyshov was drafted 33rd-overall by San Jose and was even seen as a late first-round pick by some scouts. The Russian winger bought out the remainder of his KHL contract and will play for the Saginaw Spirit in 2024-25.

This injury is a surprise, as Chernyshov participated in the Sharks Development camp, which included a scrimmage.

The 18-year-old split time in the KHL and MHL last season with Dynamo Moskva. In 34 games in the KHL, Chernyshov had three goals and one assist. In 22 games in the MHL, he scored 13 goals and 15 assists.
