Death of Kayeleigh Gammill in Monterey County, California still a mystery almost 2 years later
There’s a rule in the Gammill household: If you’re out past 11 p.m., call Mom and let her know if you’re not coming home. Jennifer Gammill reminded her daughter, 20-year-old Kayeleigh, of that rule when Kayeleigh left their Salinas, California home around 5:30 p.m. on August 17, 2022. “She’s like, ‘No, no. I know, Mom. I’m just gonna be gone for a couple hours and I’ll be home,’” Jennifer recalled. “And I’m like, ‘OK, fine. No worries.’”
3.3 magnitude earthquake rattles near Gilroy
A preliminary 3.3 magnitude earthquake struck Wednesday morning near Gilroy, according to the United States Geological Survey. The quake rumbled at 8:27 a.m. and was centered about 6 miles east of Gilroy on San Felipe Lake, the USGS said. No other information was immediately available. Updates to come.
Small earthquakes shake area near Gilroy
Two earthquakes were recorded early Tuesday morning near Gilroy, according to the US Geological Survey.At 1:41 a.m., a magnitude 3.2 quake occurred at approximately six miles east southeast of Gilroy, or 14.6 miles southeast of Morgan Hill. The location is at the northern end of San Felipe Lake on the Santa Clara-San Benito county line.Less than 30 seconds later, a magnitude 3.4 temblor was reported in the same area.Both quakes averaged a depth of nearly a mile.No structural damage or injuries were immediately reported following the quake.

HSD breaks ground on modular buildings at three schools
The Hollister School District held a groundbreaking ceremony July 1 for three new CUUBE modular buildings at Sunnyslope, Ladd Lane and Calaveras Elementary Schools. The Board of Trustees allocated $5.17 million in Extended Learning Opportunity Program (ELOP) funding for the permanent buildings that will accommodate afterschool programs. The new buildings with expected lifespans of 100 years each will provide just under 1,000 square feet of additional classroom space along with restrooms, storage and a data/electrical room.
