At about 8 a.m., Alameda County’s auto theft task force and deputies assigned to the Eden Township Substation tried to apprehend two suspects driving stolen cars in the Ashland area of unincorporated San Leandro.

While the two suspects were attempting to flee, one of them struck a Sheriff’s Office employee with one of the stolen cars and fled the scene.

The sheriff’s office said the deputy sustained “serious injuries” due to the collision and was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. “We are thankful the deputy survived and is receiving the medical treatment needed to recover from this traumatic incident,” ACSO said.

The two suspects are now in custody. The sheriff’s office said this is an active investigation and that anyone with information is asked to call (510) 667-3661.
