Residents of mobile home park ask for more time amid eviction deadline
Residents of Gateway Estates, a mobile home community just east of the Dripping Springs city limits, are seeking more time after receiving 60-day notices to vacate their homes from the park's owner, Gateway Development LLC. The residents received letters, which they describe as eviction notices, informing them they must move out of their homes within 60 days. Texas State announces hiring of David Pierce
Texas State officially announced the hiring of former Texas Longhorn Head Coach David Pierce, who will join the Bobcat staff as assistant to the head coach. Road bond unanimously approved by court
With the rapidly growing population in Hays County, so too is the ever expansion of infrastructure. The Hays County Commissioners Court unanimously approved a road bond for the upcoming election in an effort to ensure that the roads evolve alongside the influx of people at the regularly-scheduled meeting Tuesday. Annual US inflation falls to 3-year low, clearing the way for the Fed to begin cutting rates
Year-over-year inflation reached its lowest level in more than three years in July, the latest sign that the worst price spike in four decades is fading and setting up the Federal Reserve for an interest rate cut in September. Wednesday's report from the Labor Department showed that consumer prices rose just 0.2% from June to July after dropping slightly the previous month for the first time in four years. Measured from a year earlier, prices rose 2.9%, down from 3% in June. It was the mildest year-over-year inflation figure since March 2021. The city of San Marcos just got a financial boost that’s going to help to connect the Shared Use Pathway that runs along the San Marcos River from the west side of town to the east. Smoke meet Tidal Wave for WPF Championship Series
The Texas Smoke will meet the Coastal Bend Tidal Wave for the 2024 Women’s Professional Fastpitch league championship game in a three-game series. The Smoke clinched the best record in WPF this season with a 29-1 record and secured a spot in the championship game. The Monarchs and Tidal Wave met in a one-game playoff to determine who would advance to the championship game. Coastal Bend jumped out to a 7-0 lead after three innings before defeating the Monarchs 14-2 for the franchise’s first ever playoff victory. Rattlers drop season opener against Weiss
San Marcos dropped the season opener on the road against the Pflugerville Weiss Wolves, losing 3-2 [9-25, 25-20, 11-25, 2520, 8-15]. The Rattlers struggled early against the Wolves and dropped the first set 25-9. San Marcos rebounded in the second set to win 25-20. After dropping the third set, the Rattlers once again answered back and won the fourth set 25-20 to force a final fifth set. San Marcos couldn’t complete the comeback as Weiss won 15-8. The Rattlers will compete at the Katy-Cy Fair ISD Tournament among 48 other teams Aug. 15 through Aug. 17. San Marcos is currently scheduled to play Katy High, Cypress Ranch and Klein Cain in pool play. Jail outsourcing costs up half a million from previous year
Hays County Judge Ruben Becerra reads a report from the Sheriff’s Office during Hays County Commissioners Court that outlines the jail population and outsourcing costs for the previous week. The Sheriff’s Office provided outsourcing costs for this Fiscal Year and the previous Fiscal year (except for June and July), which shows that outsourcing costs have gone up approximately half a million dollars total compared to the same time period last year. Bobcats defeat ACU in scrimmage 4-2
Texas State defeated the Abilene Christian Wildcats 4-2 in the first and only scrimmage of the 2024 season. The Bobcats found themselves down early in the game when ACU scored a goal in the 8th minute into the game. The lead didn’t last long because Bobcat junior midfielder Lily Erb scored from outside the box and tied the at 1-1. Following a hydration break in the 24th minute, the Bobcats took the lead when junior forward Alexis Neal scored in the 37th minute from outside the box. ACU later tied the game up at 2-2 when the Wildcats scored a goal in the 43rd minute. Neal later tacked on her second goal of the game late in the first half, scoring on the crossing pass from sophomore midfielder Kaylie Smith and retaking the lead from the ACU. At halftime, Texas State led 3-2. Early in the second half, fifth year senior Mya Ulloa extended the lead to 4-2 by hitting the back of the net on the volley pass. The Bobcat defense shut out the Wildcat offense in the second half to seal the 4-2 scrimmage win. Bobcats players added to more preseason watch lists
Several more Bobcat football players were named to the pre-season awards watch list for the 2024 season. Defensive end Ben Bell was named to the Chuck Bednarik Award preseason watch list, which is given to the most outstanding defensive player in college football. Bell made 57 total tackles, 32 solo tackles and 10 sacks for the Bobcats last year. Adding to his accolades is quarterback Jordan McCloud, who was named to the Davey O’Brien preseason watch list. The O’Brien award is given to the best quarterback in college football. McCloud was also named to the Walter Camp and Maxwell award watch lists. Wide receiver Joey Hobert was named to the Biletnikoff Award list, which is given to the best wide receiver in college football. Hobert caught 76 passes for 895 yards and eight touchdowns for the Bobcats last season. Running back Lincoln Pare was named to the College Sports Communicators watch list for the 2024 Comeback Player of the Year.
