Incoming Sulphur Springs High School senior Skyler Lewis has announced his commitment to play college football at Texas State University. The Wildcats’ number one receiver has enjoyed a great career, and will be looking for more positive results this upcoming fall.

Lewis, a wide receiver, has been a key member of the Wildcats’ receiving core since joining the Wildcat football team.

As a sophomore, Lewis showed plenty of promise, catching 37 passes for 547 yards, and scoring seven touchdowns. His best outing came against the Anna Coyotes that year, 2022, where he caught 11 passes for 176 yards, and scored two touchdowns.

Lewis took a big step forward as a junior. As the Wildcats’ top receiving threat, he hauled in 45 receptions for 1,022 yards, and scored 11 touchdowns.

Last season, Lewis caught a touchdown pass in all but three games.

He also eclipsed 100 receiving yards in a game on four different occasions. His best outing came against the Kaufman Lions, where he hauled in five receptions for 264 yards and two touchdowns.

Lewis has also garnered offers from 10 other Division I universities: Baylor, Lamar, Louisiana Tech, Sam Houston State, Stephen F. Austin State, Tarleton State, Texas A&M-Commerce, Texas Tech, the University of North Texas, and the University of Texas at San Antonio.

Lewis has been a key piece of the Wildcats’ last two seasons, helping them to back-to-back playoff appearances. He will look to continue building off of his success as he heads into his senior year.
