Officers responded to Greenwood Avenue, near Allen Avenue and California Boulevard, Tuesday after a nearby resident had called 911 to report a woman at her door screaming for help, according to San Marino Police Department Detective Arthur Burgos.

Investigators later determined the woman was followed by Alexander John Hendry, who had allegedly pulled her back inside the residence next door.

The responding officers attempted to negotiate with Hendry, but he refused to speak with law enforcement while the victim remained inside the home with him for approximately three hours.

Police said Hendry had taken the victim's cellphone, preventing the woman from contacting officers, who had sustained minor injuries to her knee and shoulder.

Hendry eventually exited the residence around 9 p.m. Tuesday after officers successfully negotiated with him, and safety took him into custody. He was booked at the Pasadena City Jail on suspicion of kidnapping, domestic violence, false imprisonment and unlawful taking of a communication device, police said.
