Robert Simpson watches thousands of commuters cross the Bay Bridge every day from his beachfront R.V. encampment next to the toll plaza on Interstate 80. Free fishing day, record heat draw the angling-curious to California waterways
SAN FRANCISCO -- Saturday was the first of the two free fishing days of 2024 in California -- a great time to get out to the water to see if you could make the perfect cast."Fishing remains hugely popular in California. CHP rescues kitten stranded on the side of I-80 in Oakland
A kitten stranded on the side of the highway Friday night was rescued after a call to the California Highway Patrol. Around 8 p.m., the CHP said they got a call about a kitten being stranded on the side of Interstate 80, near the I-580 eastbound transition. CHP officer Bretz responded to the call and found the kitten scared and shaking near the highway. "Officer Bretz quickly and calmly rescued this adorable fur-ball from getting hit," the CHP said. "We're thankful to those that called this in and grateful for officer Bretz's quick action and kind heart."

Guide dogs teams celebrate graduation in San Rafael
SAN RAFAEL, Calif. - Saturday was a day of celebration for a group of newly graduated Guide Dogs for the Blind. The 1,007th class of guide dog teams took the stage in San Rafael to receive their certifications. The half-dozen guide dogs-- each assigned to a human companion-- were also accompanied by the volunteers who helped train and raise them.

Fished along the north coast for our rockfish/lingcod trip
The Sea Wolf fished along the north coast for our rockfish/lingcod trip today with great cool weather. We did have a small swell and a light breeze on the ocean. We finished our day a little after noon with 230 rockfish and 46 lingcod for our 23 anglers. The trips we have next week are already marked as “A GO” for Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday and all still have space available along with a few spots open for next Sunday. I did just that on a stunning Saturday morning in late June, when the two of us sat down at an outdoor table at Caffe Trieste in North Beach. After an 18-month hiatus courtesy of Mother Nature's wrath, the iconic bronze sea lion sculpture by artist Al Sybrian is back on its watery watch, anchoring itself once more to Sausalito's southern waterfront.
