( KRON ) — A kitten that was rescued from the side of a freeway in San Ramon was successfully extricated from under the dashboard of a car after being stuck there. Natalie Borton was driving along I-580 in Castro Valley Friday morning when she noticed the feline on a fence near the BART tracks.

Borton stopped to rescue the cat, but while she was driving it to the Veterinary Emergency Group in San Ramon, the kitten managed to get itself wedged under the dashboard near the brake pedal.

The driver pulled over and called the San Ramon Valley Fire Department. Engine 39 responded and attempted to free the kitten. However, according to fire officials, the cat’s back leg was twisted around the internal brake mechanism and was completely stuck.

The rescuers called for a mobile vet to come and sedate the kitten. A mobile mechanic also responded and helped assist. The kitten was successfully extricated and taken to the vet for an evaluation.

The vet who examined the kitten named it “Gaz Pedal.” Borton, who initially rescued the kitten from the side of the road, plans to adopt the kitten and will call her “Gaz” or “Gazzie,” KRON4.com has learned.
