Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Authority elects Queen Creek Mayor Julia Wheatley as new board chair
Queen Creek Mayor Julia Wheatley has been elected chairwoman of the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Authority (PMGAA) for Fiscal Year 2025. Each year, the PMGAA board elects a slate of officers from the six-member community board representatives. Gila River Indian Community Lt. Gov. Regina Antone will serve as vice chair, Mesa Mayor John Giles will serve as secretary, and Gilbert Mayor Brigette Peterson will serve as treasurer.
CUSD’s new budget carries pain all around
The reality of what it means to be a district with declining enrollment was presented to Chandler Unified School District’s Governing Board at its June 26 meeting. Board members were asked to authorize the publication of the new fiscal year’s budget, which they are scheduled to approve in July. The bad news for district officials is that they have $51.6 million less to work with than last year.

Queen Creek town offices to close July 4 for Independence Day
The Town of Queen Creek offices and Recreation Annex will close on Thursday, July 4 in observation of Independence Day. Trash and recycling services for zone four will be impacted by the holiday closure. All trash and recycling services in this zone (including bulk trash collection) will be moved back one calendar day. Residents in zone four will need to have their trash and recycling carts curbside by 6 a.m. on Friday, July 5. As a reminder, it can take up to 48 hours for bulk trash to be picked up. The Arizona Department of Revenue (DOR) June 3 announced various tax rate changes for the City of Page, Surprise, and Town of Queen Creek.
