Suspect caught on surveillance video near Army Surplus store fire refuses to answer police questions

SANDPOINT, Idaho - The woman accused of burning down the Army Surplus store in Sandpoint on the Fourth of July refused to answer police questions as to why she started the fires.

According to court documents, Jennifer S. Meyer, 50 of Sandpoint, was caught on surveillance footage at the Army Surplus store around 10 p.m. on the Fourth of July.

Court documents said Meyer approached the south wall of the building seconds before the City Beach fireworks show began. At 10:10 p.m., cameras captured a glow near where Meyer was standing. She then stepped back from the glow as it continued to get bigger.

Within one minute, the glow grew to a large flame going up the south wall of the Army Surplus store.

Surveillance cameras nearby were able to capture video of Meyer that allowed police to pin her as the suspect who set the fire.

Meyer went in for an interview with Sandpoint Police on July 16. Court documents said during that interview, her response to the video surveillance and questions about why she started the fire were that she could not answer police questions.

Meyer was arrested and booked into Bonner County Jail for first-degree arson.
