Warriors In The Field Visits Summers County to Serve Veterans
SUMMERS COUNTY W.Va. (Hinton News) - Warriors In The Field, an Elkins-based non-profit that serves veterans, visited Summers County on June 22 and 23 to take a deserving group of veterans on a New River float fishing trip. Organization founder, Dave Whittaker was joined by Army veterans Jeff Huey and Jim Brogan of Summers County, Joe Young and John Vaught of Fayette County and Jason Huffman of Randolph County. BECKLEY, WV – Crestview Village Apartment tenants in Beckley have expressed frustration over the deteriorating condition of their road following a logging operation ordered by Governor Jim Justice a few years ago. The road, which was not built to endure heavy logging trucks, suffered significant damage from the activity.
Hinton woman turns 106 on Fourth of July holiday
HINTON, W.Va. (WVVA) - A Summers County woman is celebrating her birthday this Independence Day. Myrtle Brabb, of Hinton, turned 106 today. Last year, Brabb was sent more than 1,500 birthday cards from all over the country after the Hinton Hope Foundation relayed that her only wish for her birthday was to receive card.

HINTON W.Va. (Hinton News) - Hinton's City Council took a historic turn on Tuesday, July 2, as a swearing-in ceremony ushered in a new era of leadership. Bunn Fink Road closed until October
SUMMERS COUNTY W.Va. (Hinton News) – County Route 6/1, Bunn Fink Road, has a closure from milepost 0.15 to milepost 0.16, from 8 a.m. Tuesday, June 25, through 6 p.m. Thursday, October 31, for bridge replacement. Inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances may affect the project schedule. Local traffic will have access to all properties on both sides of the bridge. Other traveling public are asked to use alternate routes around the work area. WVDOH expresses its apologies for the inconvenience this closure may cause the citizens and guests to the area. Motorists are asked to observe all traffic control signs and devices and use caution while traveling around the work zone. ALDERSON, W.Va. — One of the longest 4th of July parades in West Virginia kicks off Thursday morning in the community of Alderson. Briton Kirby, member of the Alderson 4th of July Celebration Committee, told MetroNews their 63rd annual grand parade steps off at 10:30 a.m. and runs for about two hours.
