GIBSONBURG, Ohio — Two Sandusky county men were killed when the sport-utility vehicle they were traveling in crashed into a tree Sunday night, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.

Andrew Widmer, 23, of Gibsonburg, was driving west on West Stevenson Street near North Patterson Street around 10:23 p.m. Sunday when he lost control of the vehicle and struck the tree, troopers from the patrol’s Fremont post said. Both he and his passenger, Emilio Chavez, 30, of Woodville, Ohio, were ejected from the vehicle, even though Mr. Widmer wore a seat belt.

Both men were pronounced dead at the scene. Mr. Chavez did not wear a seat belt.

The Lucas County Coroner’s Office scheduled autopsies for Tuesday on behalf of the Sandusky County Coroner’s Office.

The crash remained under investigation Monday.
