ELMORE, Ohio — A Mexican man walking in an Ohio Turnpike work zone was fatally struck by a vehicle over the weekend, the Ohio State Highway Patrol reported.

Dencer Morales-Garcia, 31, of Frontera Comalapa, Mexico, was walking in the eastbound lanes about two miles east of the State Rt. 51 interchange in Sandusky County’s Washington Township around 9:37 p.m. Sunday when he was struck by a minivan driven by Srivatsa Bhamidipati, 22, of Monroeville, Pa., troopers from the patrol’s Milan post said.

Mr. Morales-Garcia, a migrant worker who had been working in the area, died at the scene.

Neither Mr. Bhamidipati nor his passenger was injured. The incident remained under investigation Monday.

The death was the second this month involving a pedestrian on the west end of the turnpike. Matthew Savord, 30, of Toledo was killed on the night of July 20 when he was struck while walking across the turnpike’s eastbound lanes near I-475 in Springfield Township.
