SANDWICH, Ill. (WTVO) — After receiving complaints of foul smells emanating from a property in rural Sandwich, the Illinois Department of Agriculture conducted an investigation over the course of several months and discovered neglected and dead animals.

According to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, authorities were drawn to the 17000 block of Wagner Road where they found several neglected animals and other dead animals that were “improperly disposed of.”

The Illinois DGA, along with the Sheriff’s Office, Animal Control, and the State’s Attorney pressed charges against the landowner, Mohammad Raza-Ahsan, 60.

Raza-Ahsan was booked into the DeKalb County Jail on charges of animal cruelty, processed, and then released with a notice to appear at a future court date.
