Two people died in a three-car crash Sunday afternoon, July 21, about 10 miles east of Sandy after a teenage driver allegedly drifted into oncoming traffic.

Oregon State Police responded at 1:45 p.m. to the Highway 26 crash, at milepost 32, near Cherryville. According to early investigations, a juvenile girl driving a Volkswagen Tiguan westbound entered the eastbound lanes for unknown reasons and struck an oncoming BMW 540. The BMW spun into the westbound lanes, where it was struck by a Tesla T3.

The driver of the BMW, 32-year-old Matthew Dorsett, and his passenger, 31-year-old Claire Elise Kidd Dorsett, both of Redmond, Washington, died at the scene. The teen driver of the Volkswagen and the driver of the Tesla, 40-year-old Renee Ann Dejarnatt, of Portland, both suffered minor injuries and were taken to a nearby medical center.

Traffic was impacted for nearly six hours during an investigation. No cause of the crash or charges have been released at this time. The teenager’s identity is being withheld because she is a juvenile.

Assisting were Hoodland Fire and the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office.
