Reforming juvenile justice system benefits kids, communities
We are youth advocates who were incarcerated at the ages of 14 and 15. We don’t want the juvenile legal system to do to others what it did to us and our peers. When a juvenile under 18 comes into the justice system, the juvenile must be treated not as adult, but as a child, a kid.
DelGrosso's Amusement Park celebrates the 100th birthday of its carousel
Thursday is National Carousel Day. DelGrosso’s Amusement Park in Tipton, near Altoona, is celebrating the day and the 100th anniversary of its own carousel. The Herschell-Spillman Carousel is one of the first sights guests see entering DelGrosso’s Park. The “Wurlitzer Band Organ” plays big band music from paper scrolls as 36 hand-carved and hand-painted horses rise and fall.

Men’s and Women’s Tennis Earn Multiple ITA Academic Awards
LORETTO, Pa. - The Red Flash had 12 total student-athletes named ITA Scholar-Athletes and both the men's and women's programs were named an ITA All-Academic Team. In order to be named an ITA Scholar-Athlete, student-athletes must have maintained at least a 3.5 grade point average for the academic year. A program must have a team-average grade point average of 3.2 for the academic year in order to be eligible for an All-Academic Team recognition. Crews battle Lancaster County house fire
Firefighters are battling a house fire in Lancaster County Thursday morning. Lititz Fire Company made a Facebook post around 6:30 a.m. telling drivers to avoid the house fire located at the first block of West Orange Street, Lititz. The roads are closed between Broad and Spruce Streets due to a first alarm fire, firefighters said.

UPMC Harrisburg launching free fitness programs, live demonstrations
HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) — UPMC Harrisburg is launching a new initiative for summer 2024 to provide free, accessible fitness opportunities for the Harrisburg community. UPMC Healthy Harrisburg is hosting class demonstrations on Tuesday, July 23, at their new location at 1000 Paxton St., in Harrisburg. The program’s new location provides a larger exercise space and additional free parking.

Mosquito Sample in Ferguson Township Tests Positive for West Nile Virus
A mosquito sample recently collected in Ferguson Township has tested positive for West Nile Virus, according to a release from the Centre County Planning and Community Development Office, which received the results from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection’s Vector Management. It is the county’s first reported positive sample this year. West Nile Virus is a mosquito-borne disease that produces severe neurological symptoms in about 1% of humans that become infected as the result of a bite by an infected mosquito.
