Sandy Springs attorney Sherri Allen was appointed as chair of the Fulton County Board of Registrations and Elections by the county commission on Monday. She’s the third person to hold that role this year.

Allen replaces Cathy Woolard who told Fulton Commission Chairman Robb Pitts that she wanted to resign effective July 25. Patrice Perkins-Hooper held the role until April when she quit to become interim city attorney for the City of Atlanta.

Woolard, a former Atlanta City Council member, was previously appointed in April 2021 under threat from Secretary of State Brad Raffensberger to remove the entire elections board. He said she was unsuitable for the chair due to her work with Fair Fight, the nonprofit created by Stacey Abrams to stop voter suppression and injustice, and her support of Planned Parenthood.

Allen is the legal assistance manager for The Warrior Alliance, whose mission is to improve the quality of life for service members, veterans, and their families through a network of veteran support organizations.

She is a practicing trial lawyer specializing in catastrophic personal injury and military and veterans’ law, according to her bio on The Warrior Alliance website. Allen serves as the chair of the Sandy Springs Board of Appeals and on the board of Solidarity Sandy Springs.  She is licensed to practice law in Georgia, California (inactive), and Washington (inactive) and is accredited to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims.

She has been recognized nationally for her expertise in military and veterans’ law and as one of the top 100 Black lawyers in the U.S. In addition to being a member of the State Bar of Georgia, Allen is a member of the Georgia Association of Black Women Lawyers, the Gate City Bar Association, Sandy Springs Bar Association, and the Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims Bar Association.
