Orlando Pride Secures Draw Against North Carolina Courage in NWSL x Liga MX Femenil Summer Cup Opener
The Orlando Pride nabbed themselves a hard-fought point this past Saturday, playing against the North Carolina Courage in what proved to be a gritty opener for the NWSL x Liga MX Femenil Summer Cup. The match, steeped in competitive fervor, ended with a draw in regulation time but escalated to a penalty shootout where the Pride were narrowly outscored 5-4 by the Courage, who thus bagged two points for their efforts, according to an article by WESH.
💬 McKinley Crone: 'It's just such an honor' to play for hometown club against North Carolina Courage
“I think the experience of a shootout was one we haven't experienced ever, so having gone through that, it gives the players that sort of experience going forward. You can't replicate a shootout, as much as you can practice that ‘putting the pressure on’, you just can't do that in training. I thought the players dealt with it well. You know, it didn't go our way, which is unfortunate, but overall in terms of the game, we're very pleased to come [out of] here with a point. There’s no hiding in it, we've got a lot of players away on international duty. North Carolina didn't have that case, so they were a little bit more fluid with how they played. You could see that, those connections, that team chemistry, which took us a bit. But fair play to the players to come here one-nil down and have the desire and the character to come back and score the goal, it's brilliant to see. And we continue that momentum that we had in the league into the tournament now.”
Today is the last day to register to vote and change parties for Florida primary
If you’re not someone who consistently stays in the loop on politics and elections, an election year can be a confusing time, especially if you live in Florida. Many people might be wondering what exactly is the difference between Florida’s presidential preference primary, the actual primary election and the general election. That’s a great question, but before it's answered, it’s also important to know that your voter registration is in good standing and that you’re registered with the right party.
Have shark attacks increased in Florida? Expert says no

Republicans want to take Florida educational model nationwide with party platform
In its political platform adopted earlier this month, the Republican Party pledged to implement universal school choice, boost parental rights and promote "patriotic" standards for civics education. In other words, under former President Donald Trump, education across the country would look a lot like it does in Florida. Why it matters: Florida in recent years has been thrust into the national spotlight for its hyper-conservative approach to education, serving as a test kitchen for policies that public education advocates say undermine students' and teachers' rights. Some have criticized the state's Department of Education for its push to include Judeo-Christian ideas in public schools,...

By summertime, most prospective college students know which school they're attending and how much they have to pay in tuition. But not Viviana Gonzalez. The Sumner High School graduate started filling out the FAFSA, or the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, back in January. But a technical issue prevented her from completing the parents' portion of the form for months.

Orlando Braces for Saharan Dust and Potential Storms, Heat Index to Surge
For those making their way to Orlando this fine Sunday, a breath of Saharan dust is set to lightly haze the skies, offering a break from the usual heavy humidity but also curtailing the likelihood of rain. The National Weather Service in Melbourne informed us earlier today that visibility might hang at or above 6 statute miles despite the Saharan souvenir – so those aircraft operations at Orlando's airfields, such as KISM-KMCO-KSFB and KLEE, should anticipate minor disruptions. You can expect thunderstorm activity, though, with some carrying gusts up to a formidable 40-50 mph.
