Man sentenced for shooting Border Patrol agent in New Mexico
NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – An El Paso man was sentenced to federal prison for attempting to murder a U.S. Border Patrol agent during a routine immigration stop in New Mexico. Roberto Esquivel, 25, was pulled over by a Border Patrol agent on a rural section of New Mexico Highway 146 on Jan. 5, 2023. According to court documents, the agent went up to the vehicle and saw individuals inside whom he suspected of being undocumented immigrants. The agent then asked Esquivel to exit the vehicle and that’s when he shot the agent.

Kind Bread Company to close this month
Kind Bread Company, a four-year-old bakery off S. Solano Drive, recently announced it would close July 27. Owner and baker Samantha Kindred delivered the news in a video posted to Instagram on July 5. In the video, Kindred said that medical issues will prevent her from being able to focus on the bakery.

Las Cruces police seek volunteers for Victims Advocate Team
The Las Cruces Police Department has put out a call for volunteers for the Victims Advocate Team, part of the LCPD’s Victims Assistance Unit. The Victims Advocate Team works with professional advocates, police officers and detectives to assist victims of crime, the department explained in a news release. Those interested in a law enforcement career, victims’ advocacy or experience related to criminal justice or social work were encouraged to apply.
