Jack-Knifed Big Rig Blocks Multiple Lanes On 5 Freeway

A jack-knifed big rig with an overturned trailer caused heavy delays on the northbound 5 Freeway through the Newhall pass during the Tuesday morning commute.

Around 5:55 a.m. Tuesday, a big rig jack-knifed on the northbound 5 Freeway south of Calgrove Boulevard in Newhall, according to officials with the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

“A tractor towing double trailers lost control, jack-knifed, and the rear trailer overturned ,” Officer Josh Greengard, spokesperson for the CHP Newhall Area Office said.

No other vehicles were involved, and no one was injured, according to Greengard.

The no. 1, 2 and 3 lanes of the northbound 5 Freeway were blocked for several hours, but were re-opened at 8:55 a.m.
