Red Flag Warning In Effect For I-5 Corridor North Of Santa Clarita

A red flag warning is in effect for the Interstate 5 (I-5)corridor just north of Santa Clarita due to warm and dry conditions.

The Red Flag Warning is scheduled to be in place Friday evening through Saturday, according to officials with the National Weather Service (NWS)

Drivers are asked to take precautions as very dry fuels, exceptionally low relative humidity values, and gusty winds can contribute to extreme fire behavior, NWS officials said.

As part of the I-5 Corridor, the Santa Clarita Valley is in a high-risk area as critical fire conditions continue into a hot, dry and windy weekend, already exacerbated by an excessive heat event .

Residents are advised to use caution when dealing with fire sources. Approximately 95 percent of wildfires in California are human-caused, according to state records.

If you see a wildfire , immediately call 911 and avoid the area, as the fire can spread quickly.
