Following Zach Schroeder stepping down as the Head Coach of The Master’s University’s cross country and track and field programs, the university has named a new head coach.

Taking over the programs after being recommended by Schroeder is former TMU athlete and Golden Valley alum Daniel Rush.

“It is an honor to hear coach (Schroeder) promote my moving into this position,” Rush said in an interview with TMU Athletics. “The reason it’s so exciting is because I’ve seen first-hand the impact the Lord has had on me and the team through coach. And I’ve seen the way that the team can be influential for the gospel, and I’ve seen the way that it can change lives while also being so successful athletically. Seeing that, it makes me more passionate for this team than anything else I could be doing. You could not offer me, at this moment, any other job on earth that I would take over this.”

Seeing Rush’s passion for the Lord and the cross country and track and field program made Schroeder feel at ease knowing the programs are in good hands.

“I am confident he will take the team to new heights. It would have been nearly impossible for me to leave had God not provided Daniel,” stated Schroeder. “I cannot imagine someone more well-suited to lead this team spiritually and athletically.”

Heading into the upcoming season Rush hopes to continue to lead the program in the right direction.

“My goal, my passion in stepping in, is to keep the ball rolling in the exact same direction it’s been going, Rush said.

While Schroeder is no longer the head coach he is set to be the director of cross country and track and field to mentor coaches. This position will allow him to work remotely and spend more time with his family which is why he resigned as head coach.

This past year Schroeder and his wife Amie, an assistant coach and nutritionist for the team became parents.

“Amie and I never imagined we would be parents,” Schroeder said. “We praise the Lord for His lovingkindness and thank Him countless times each day for blessing us with our precious little girl. The transformation of parenthood has been both amazing and unexpected. God has planted in our hearts a desire to raise Angelina near family, prompting us to move out of state.”

While Schroeder was head coach of the program for 19 years, his teams won 14 straight men’s and five women’s cross country GSAC titles, with seven individual champions in men’s and six individual champions in women’s. Ten of TMU’s track and field and cross country athletes were coached by Schroeder, who also helped several others earn All-American honors.

“It is impossible to express my love for the university and the program God has graciously allowed me to be a part of these past 19 years,” he said. “The Lord’s lovingkindness to me and Amie through TMU and our Track & Field family is overwhelming.”
