Willacy County Regional Detention Facility approved for full operation
HIDALGO, Texas — The Texas Commission on Jail Standards has approved the Willacy County Regional Detention Facility for full operation under La Salle Corrections. The regional detention facility, which met all state inspections and obtained necessary certifications, began operations with the transfer of inmates from the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office Detention Center. A total of 450 inmates are scheduled to be housed at the Willacy facility once it is fully populated.

Over 2 thousand backpacks to be distributed in Mercedes
The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office will be distributing over 2,000 backpacks on Wednesday, July 31, in Mercedes. The backpacks will be filled assorted school supplies such as folders, pencils, and paper to all children present who are currently attending elementary, middle, or high school, according to the sheriff’s office.
