Santa Rosa police officers chased a juvenile on foot who they say had a handgun on Thursday while attempting to arrest him on an outstanding warrant, the Santa Rosa Police Department alleged in a press release later that night.

Just before 5 p.m. on Thursday, Special Enforcement Team officers allegedly saw the juvenile, who police knew had a warrant out for their arrest, while patrolling the 1200 block of Cleveland Avenue in Santa Rosa. Police allege the juvenile is a known gang participant.

The juvenile allegedly ran from police on foot when they tried to make contact, going southbound on Cleveland Avenue toward College Avenue. They were taken into police custody after a short pursuit, according to the press release.

Police allege they found a Glock model 17, 9 mm handgun loaded with a full 17-round magazine while searching the juvenile, alongside a loaded 30-round magazine with 22 rounds of 9 mm ammunition. Officers noted that identifying markings on the firearm had been removed.

The juvenile was booked into Juvenile Hall on suspicion of carrying a loaded firearm in public, possessing a concealed handgun as a minor, obliterating firearm markings and resisting arrest.

The suspect's name is not being released due to their age. The associated case number is

    SRPD 24-8039.
