A Santa Rosa resident was taken to a hospital Monday after a fire spread from a vehicle into his home in the northwest part of the city, fire officials said.

Santa Rosa firefighters responded about 3 p.m. to multiple reports of a dark column of smoke coming from behind a grocery story on Fulton Road and found the vehicle, which was parked in the driveway of a home on Country Manor Drive, engulfed in flames, the fire department said in a news release.

The fire spread from the vehicle into the one-story home’s garage.

Fire crews found a resident inside who had inhaled smoke and had minor burns from trying to extinguish the flames. He was later taken to a hospital.

Four engines, one squad car, one ladder truck and one air unit contained the fire in about 20 minutes. The blaze was contained to the garage and did not cause damage inside the home, though there was some minor smoke staining near the door to the living space.

A cause has not yet been determined.
