Marvel’s First Family assembled at San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday evening. A concept reel for the inaugural “Fantastic Four” installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was unveiled to Hall H attendees after an introduction by director Matt Shakman, giving fans a taste of the Space Age aesthetic that will be incorporated into the superhero feature. Daniel Warren Johnson’s Transformers wins Two Eisner Awards at SDCC 2024
Skybound’s Energon Universe received the highest accolade in comics at San Diego Comic-Con 2024 tonight, as Daniel Warren Johnson’s work on Transformers received two Eisner Awards. The multitalented pop auteur and his bestselling EU title won both “Best Continuing Series” and “Best Writer/Artist.” What makes the “Best Continuing Series” win especially sweet is that Transformers was the only non-DC Comics title in the running. Kudos to all the winners and nominees, including Skybound’s other nominated creators!
Machado Drives in 1,000th Career Run as Padres Win 7th Straight
The Padres made it seven in a row Saturday as their hot road trip continued with a 9-4 win in Baltimore. The Friars benefitted from sloppy early play by the Orioles to build a 4-0 lead before breaking it open in the seventh inning. With one out, Jurickson Profar and Jake Cronenworth singled to bring up Manny Machado, who on an 0-1 count did what he does: slammed a ball into the stands to boost the Friar lead to seven.

SAN DIEGO (July 26, 2024) – San Diego Wave FC fell 2-0 to Club América Femenil in NWSL x Liga MX Femenil Summer Cup group play at Snapdragon Stadium. San Diego goalkeeper Morgan Messner was tested early on by Club América, as midfielder Scarlett Camberos fired a blast from inside the box that Messner reacted quickly to as the ‘keeper parried it away. In the 60th minute, it would be Messner again, in her NWSL debut, making a one-handed save off a free kick by Club América.

Doctor Who has is thriving in its transition from a British cultural institution to a global sci-fi phenomenon. The longest-running sci-fi series jumped streaming services (and reset its season count) with Disney+ with the return of showrunner Russell T. Davies, who rebooted the series back in 2005. The first season of this new iteration had everything: musical numbers, babies in space, a Bridgerton pastiche, and a classic story of found family. The announced spinoff is in the works, but what’s next for the show itself?
UPDATE: Sale of Pavilions in WeHo on hold as Kroger/Albertsons merger delayed
UPDATE 7/27/2024: The merger between Albertsons and Kroger has been put on hold, delaying the sale of nearly 600 stores, including the Pavilions in West Hollywood along with 62 other stores in California. A Colorado judge issued an order on Thursday temporarily halting the $24.6 billion merger following a challenge by the state attorney general, according to Bloomberg. The judge canceled an August 12 hearing and scheduled a trial on the merits of the merger for September 30. Kroger and Albertsons, the parent companies of Food 4 Less, Vons, and Pavilions, have agreed not to finalize the deal until the judge rules.
