People living in the South Park neighborhood are relieved after a city-owned lot that became a weed-infested fire danger was cleared out and is no longer an issue. “I’m really surprised. It’s beautiful,” said Jinger Snapp, a neighbor who lives on the same block as the lot. “We were all concerned about it. It was overgrown. It was a mess.”

A new generation of firefighters
On July 13, Southwestern College graduated the next generation of firefighters from the Fire Technology program at the SWC Public Safety Training Center. Lorraine Hutchinson, retired deputy chief of the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department and program director of the Southwestern College Fire Academy led the ceremonies. Robert Logan, who was recently appointed by San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria, as the next fire chief of the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department was the keynote speaker.

Skybound’s Energon Universe received the highest accolade in comics at San Diego Comic-Con 2024 tonight, as Daniel Warren Johnson’s work on Transformers received two Eisner Awards. The multitalented pop auteur and his bestselling EU title won both “Best Continuing Series” and “Best Writer/Artist.” What makes the “Best Continuing Series” win especially sweet is that Transformers was the only non-DC Comics title in the running. Firefighters knock down brush fire north of Fallbrook, gaining containment
Firefighters were battling a vegetation fire that broke out in De Luz Sunday. Units were dispatched around 11 a.m. Sunday to reports of a fire, dubbed the "Trail 4 Fire," in the area of Harris Trail and Via Cordoniz Road in San Diego County, just north of Fallbrook, according to Cal Fire officials.
