BlacQuity Announces the Second Annual ROOTS & RIVERS FESTIVAL to be Held September 14th
BLUFFTON, SC - BlacQuity, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering Black entrepreneurs, is thrilled to present the second annual Roots & Rivers Festival, a vibrant celebration of local businesses and community spirit. This year’s Coastal Cowboy and Cowgirl-themed event will take place on September 14, from 2 – 8 p.m. at the scenic river view of Oyster Factory Park, 63 Wharf St., and will include live music, line dancing, mechanical bull riding, artisanal vendors, craft beer, food trucks, and new to the festival this year, a Kid Zone and VIP experiences.
Roman Catholic Diocese of Charleston hires new school superintendent
CHARLESTON, S.C (WCIV) — The Roman Catholic Diocese of Charleston announced Monday they hired a new superintendent of Catholic schools. Colleen M. Donohoe, formerly an associate superintendent within the Archdiocese of Boston, is "excited to bring her passion for Catholic education to South Carolina," according to a statement from the Diocese.
Woman mourns loss of husband, urges gun safety after N. Romney St. shooting
CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - One Charleston woman is grieving the loss of her husband and dealing with injuries of her own while urging the public to practice proper gun safety. On the night of July 5, a Charleston Police officer reported hearing gunshots from the Bridgeview Apartments on North Romney Street while he was patrolling the area. Three people had been shot, including 44-year-old Brian Fokes, who died at the scene. A teenager and Fokes’ wife Pearl Samuels were taken to the hospital.

Groundbreaking event for new NOAA facility in North Charleston, South Carolina
NOAA Marine and Aviation Operations will hold a ceremony to break ground on renovations at the agency’s pier facility in North Charleston, South Carolina. The renovations will include demolishing and building a new pier that includes shoreside power for ships, as well as a warehouse, sea wall and living shoreline, and other supporting infrastructure. Reconstruction of the pier and other facility upgrades will allow NOAA ships Ronald H. Brown and Nancy Foster to once again have a designated place to dock and better accommodate research missions in the Atlantic. Both ships are homeported in Charleston.
