Minnesota Reels from Weekend Storms
(KNSI) – Power is still out in some areas, and cleanup continues after severe weather raked Minnesota over the weekend. Widespread reports of wind damage and large hail occurred with the rounds of thunderstorms from July 13th and 14th. Some of the largest hail came out of a strong supercell dropping hail stones around Big Lake and Monticello the size of softballs. Elsewhere, hail between the size of golf balls to hen’s eggs. Numerous downed branches and trees were also reported stretching from Alexandria through central Minnesota to the Twin Cities. The highest wind gust recorded at the St. Cloud Airport was 49 miles an hour. Minneapolis St. Paul International Airport saw a 62 mile an hour wind gust. Alexandria and Sauk Centre saw wind gusts in the 50s. One tornado was also confirmed in Rice County. Damage there was mostly to crops. St. Cloud officially recorded 2.2″ of rain on Saturday.

Torrential rains lead to near-average runoff forecast for Missouri River basin
(Omaha) -- Torrential rains in parts of South Dakota, Iowa, Nebraska, and Minnesota have led to a near-average runoff forecast in 2024 for the Missouri River Basin. That was the message from U.S. Army Corps of Engineer officials during its monthly update Thursday. Since the last monthly update, heavy rainfall led to severe flooding in parts of northwest Iowa and minor to moderate flooding along the downstream Missouri River. For June, corps officials say runoff above Sioux City was 6.6 million acre-feet, or 119% of average and 2.6 million acre-feet higher than the forecast. Thus, Ryan Larsen Corps Engineer Adam Larsen says the 2024 calendar year runoff forecast for the Missouri River Basin above Sioux City has increased to 24.6 million acre-feet, or 96% of average.

I-94 Project Between Monticello and Albertville Starts Soon
MONTICELLO (WJON News) -- A long-awaited road construction project in central Minnesota is getting started next week. The Minnesota Department of Transportation will start the three-year expansion of Interstate 94 between Albertville and Monticello. Hopkins man pleads guilty to ex-girlfriend's gruesome murder
HOPKINS, Minn. (FOX 9) - A Hopkins man pleaded guilty on Monday to murdering his one-time girlfriend days after he got out of jail for assaulting her. Matthew Brenneman, 40, pleaded guilty on July 15 to second-degree murder in the killing of Danicka Bergeson in her apartment in July 2023. His guilty plea is in exchange for a prison sentence of 285 months (23.75 years), with all other counts, including first-degree murder, being dropped. He is scheduled to be sentenced on Aug. 23.
