Fundraiser underway for the family of Kalamazoo man killed in Allegan County crash Sunday
KALAMAZOO, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – The family of a Kalamazoo man killed in a two vehicle crash Sunday has set up a GoFundMe fund to raise money for the man’s wife and four sons. Dan Savage died at the scene of the accident when the car he was driving was broadsided by a pickup truck south of Holland in Allegan County’s Fillmore Township.
Rawson convicted of first degree murder in Pullman
James Edward Rawson was convicted on June 26 of first-degree murder in the death of his estranged wife’s son in 2022. Rawson was found guilty of first-degree murder, assault with intent to murder, and two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. The trial began June 18 in Allegan County’s 48th Circuit Court.
Ottawa Co. Sheriff Reflective After Two Michigan Deputy Deaths in June
OLIVE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, July 3, 2024) – For the second time in six days, a sheriff’s deputy in Michigan will be laid to rest. Funeral services for William “Bill” Butler Jr. will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 AM at the Hillsdale College Christ Chapel. The 51-year-old Hillsdale County deputy died after being shot by a suspect last Thursday. The suspect, 34-year-old Eric Fiddler of Jonesville, who had been wanted on several warrants, died in a shootout with police about four hours later. It’s the first time since 1930 a Hillsdale County police officer has died in the line of duty.
Stolen Life Ring at Lakeshore Beach Recovered; Case Under Investigation
LAKETOWN TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, July 2, 2024) – It apparently is much tougher to get away with taking souvenirs from a beach along the Lakeshore. Laketown Township officials announced on Tuesday the recovery of a rescue ring that was stolen from the township’s beach last week. Security cameras at the site along Lake Michigan off of 142nd Avenue captured the images taken during the evening hours of June 26th of four persons leaving the parking lot with the ring around the neck of one of them. Those cameras also spotted the suspects attempting to remove a handicapped-accessible parking sign, along with the vehicle and license plate as they left the area.
Motorist Hospitalized After Fiery Crash North of Zeeland
BLENDON TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, July 4, 2024) – A 19-year-old Hudsonville man was hospitalized after a fiery single-vehicle crash north of Zeeland late on Wednesday night. According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Jon Smoes, deputies and other first responders were dispatched around 11:45 PM to the area of 96th Avenue near Bingham Street on a report of a sedan that had rolled over and was ablaze. The lone motorist was able to get out of the vehicle by the time crews arrived.
