Southern Illinois State Parks Shut Down Due to Flash Flooding
East St. Louis, IL – Several southern Illinois state parks are experiencing total closures or road closures due to flash flooding over the past 24 hours. According to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Frank Holten State Park in East St. Louis is currently closed to all visitors due to severe flooding. The closures are a precaution to ensure visitor safety as water levels continue to rise.

EAST ST. LOUIS – When the East St. Louis Community Tennis Association faced a critical safety issue, Ameren Illinois volunteers stepped in to help. The outdated lighting fixtures around the newly resurfaced Al Penelton tennis courts in Lincoln Park were hanging precariously from nearly 50-year-old poles, posing a potential hazard. Scott Stinson, president of the tennis association, recognized the imminent danger and reached out to Ameren Illinois for assistance.

Parts of northern Illinois shook Monday as a 3.4 magnitude earthquake struck in the early morning hours. The earthquake was centered northwest of the DeKalb County village of Somonauk. According to the United States Geological Survey, the trembler had an estimated depth of about 6 miles. The earthquake could be felt as far as Joliet.
$15 Million East St. Louis Public Safety Building Opens
EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. – Emerson Park Transit Center’s Public Safety Building celebrated its official grand opening July 11. The new $15 million facility and the operations within will help bolster communications and security collaboration among Metro Transit, the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Dept., Metro Transit Public Safety, the Bureau of Transit Police and other public safety partners.

ST. LOUIS — Two prominent former city officials who pleaded guilty to taking bribes from a local businessman have been released from federal prison. Federal prison records show former Aldermanic President Lewis Reed and former 21st Ward Alderman John Collins-Muhammad are in the custody of the St. Louis Residential Reentry Management field office. The office supervises people serving time on home confinement or in halfway houses.
