CHIPPEWA COUNTY — The I-75 rest area heading northbound to Sault Ste. Marie is closing early next week for construction and renovation.

Starting Monday, July 8 and expected to last until July 10, the Michigan Department of Transportation said the rest area will be closed for repaving. The Sault Ste. Marie Welcome Center five miles north of the rest area will remain open during the work.

This job is a part of a $3.5 million investment to resurface a large portion of I-75 in the Upper Peninsula. The total project will see the road resurfaced on I-75 from M-28 to 3 Mile. The work will include several aspects, including repairing guardrails, joints, shoulders and reapplying asphalt and pavement markings.
