Lake Superior State Lakers 2024-25 Hockey Schedule and Ticket Information
Lake Superior State (LSSU) hockey program, under Head Coach Damon Whitten, released its 2024-25 schedule, offering season ticket packages at an early bird rate of $245, increasing to $265 on September 1, 2024, for a 19-game home schedule including playoff tickets. Single game tickets for the season will be available starting July 24, 2024.
International Bridge Walk canceled, unlikely to be rescheduled for this year
SAULT STE. MARIE — The International Bridge Walk was canceled due to bad weather and will likely not be rescheduled this year. The bridge walk allows residents on both sides of the St. Marys River to walk across the International Bridge and get a unique look at the river, passing freighters and the twin Saults. Inclement weather on Saturday forced the event's cancelation, as it would have been unsafe for walkers.
Lowes will remain chairman following Sault Tribe election
SAULT STE. MARIE — The tribe has spoken and Austin Lowes will remain chairman following Thursday's election. On June 27, the Sault Tribe of Chippewa Indians held its general election for chairman and board of directors. The results of the election are unofficial and still need to be certified.
Travelers can now enjoy round trip service from the U.P. to Chicago
KINROSS — You can now enjoy round trip air service from Kinross Chippewa County International Airport (CIU) to Chicago’s O’Hare Airport (ORD), the fourth busiest airport in the nation. CIU now serves three major hubs for connecting flights including Detroit and Minneapolis. Boutique Air is a commuter airline that offers charter and scheduled passenger services. Their first flight arrived from O’Hare on Sunday with six passengers. The aircraft holds up to eight. Airport manager Tami Beaseau said that those passengers were tourists.
Sault Ste. Marie man given maximum sentence for sexually assaulting granddaughter
SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. (WLUC) - An 85-year-old Sault Ste. Marie man was sentenced to prison Tuesday for sexually assaulting his granddaughter for years. Joseph Aloysius Nolan Jr., 85, was sentenced to serve a minimum of 71 months and a maximum of 15 years in prison for three felonies, to which he previously pled guilty. Those counts include one count of second-degree criminal sexual conduct (a 15-year felony) and two counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct.
I-75 rest area near Sault to close next week
CHIPPEWA COUNTY — The I-75 rest area heading northbound to Sault Ste. Marie is closing early next week for construction and renovation. Starting Monday, July 8 and expected to last until July 10, the Michigan Department of Transportation said the rest area will be closed for repaving. The Sault Ste. Marie Welcome Center five miles north of the rest area will remain open during the work.
Registration open for Higher Orbits’ space camp for kids in Sault Ste. Marie
SAULT STE. MARIE — Higher Orbits’ “Go for Launch” returns to Sault Ste. Marie in a few weeks, and they’re looking for students interested in space. Higher Orbits is a non-profit organization with the mission of promoting science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) through space exploration. In 2023, Team Space Shell 6 from Sault Area Schools won the event. Earlier this year, the six students on the team went to Cape Canaveral, Florida to watch the launch of a rocket with their winning experiment onboard. Chris Olson, Chippewa County EDC president, said interest in the space industry growing.

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) hockey program has announced the remainder of its 2024-25 hockey schedule, as announced by Head Coach Damon Whitten on Tuesday.
