Laker Volleyball Receives AVCA Team Academic Award
LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Lake Superior State (LSSU) volleyball program has been named a recipient of the 2024 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for maintaining a year-long grade-point average of at least 3.3 on a 4.0 scale, as announced by the AVCA on Wednesday, with the program's top performer in the classroom being outgoing senior Emilee McDaniel (Manistique, Mich.) who recently completed her final year at LSSU with not only the top GPA among her teammates, but among her entire graduating class, earning the title of valedictorian.

SAULT STE. MARIE — The Sault community will be able to come together to support the homeless in the Eastern Upper Peninsula at a fundraiser next week. On Tuesday, July 16, the Chippewa Luce Mackinac Community Action Agency will be hosting a new community fundraiser to help out the homeless population in its three-county region. The Brat Fundraiser will mostly feature food sales of brats, sides and other delicious delicacies.

Chippewa County man charged with possession of child sexually abusive activity
SAULT STE. MARIE, MI— A Sault Ste. Marie man has been arrested on charges connected to child pornography. The Michigan State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force says Jacob Dumas, 21, was arrested for aggravated child sexually abusive activity, possession of child sexually abusive material, and using a computer to commit a crime.

Sault Tribe Releases Over 1 Million Walleye and 45,000 Whitefish in Northern Michigan Waters
SAULT STE. MARIE – The Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians announced today the results of their 2024 walleye and whitefish stocking efforts in northern Michigan. Following a successful open house at its walleye hatchery in Dafter on June 12, where the public was invited to get an up-close look at its pond-rearing techniques, Sault Tribe staff transported and released an estimated 1,178,555 walleye fingerlings into the waters of the eastern Upper Peninsula and northern Lower Peninsula.
