Area pickleball courts open for play

    By Terrell Boettcher,

    2024-05-08

As the warm weather season progresses, several public pickleball courts are available for play in Hayward, Stone Lake and Seeley.

Weekday schedules for the courts at the Stone Lake Lions Park at the junction of Hwys. 70 and AA have been added to PlayTime Scheduler. Weekend play is open to the public on a first-come first-serve basis.

There are two older courts and two new courts. Portable nets and balls for the older courts are stored in two lock boxes by the bathrooms. The box closest to the courts is owned by the Stone Lake Lions Club and contains a portable net and extra paddles that can be borrowed but must be returned to the box. The lock combination is 16-6-36.

The suggested donation is $30 for 2024 for play on the outdoor courts, to cover maintenance and balls. Larger donations are accepted to continue to improve the playing experience.

To make a donation, individuals can either hand deliver to Karen Farrand, Joleen Smith, or Marcia McIntosh or mail to Joleen Smith at P.O. Box 325, Stone Lake, WI 54876.

A grand opening party to celebrate the new courts, fencing, and windscreens is scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday, May 17.

Reminder: Do not leave home without rechecking the schedule to make sure at least 4 people have signed up. If four people have not signed up, then assume that the session is cancelled.

Stone Lake Indoor pickleball is located at 16808 First Street. There is one court. Please park in the back lot and remove street shoes so you can use clean shoes to play pickleball. Each player should sign in and pay $5 per session. This money goes towards rental of the facility. Due to space constraints, the serving lines are too close to the wall and so you are allowed to step over the line on a serve.

Pickle ball courts in the area are as follows: The locations listed below all use a website called PlayTime Scheduler to reserve courts.

Stone Lake indoors — $5 per session to play.

Stone Lake Lions Park outdoors — $30 suggested donation for unlimited play.

Hayward Wesleyan Church indoors — $5 per session to play.

Hayward First Lutheran Church outdoors —free. Two courts on a newly paved parking lot.

There are also beautiful outdoor courts at Silverthorn Park in Seeley that use an app called Heja for scheduling.

PlayTime Scheduler is a website (not an app) and it is only for pickleball. What do you need to do?

Log on to the website at www.playtimescheduler.com

Go to “USA” then “Wisconsin” then “Stone Lake” OR “Hayward” and click on any of the pickleball times that fit your schedule!

Register your email, select a skill level from 2 to 5 (2=beginner and 5=expert) and a password. Note that the starting score of a pickleball game is 002.

You can also leave a comment — such as “I’ll be a little late” or “I have to leave early”.

You can add a guest if they aren’t registered in PlayTime and want to come and check it out.

Always delete yourself from a session if a conflict comes up and you can no longer play!!

Just a little info about what you’ll see when you get to the calendar...

The circle (aka pickleball) on the schedule shows 3 items:

The location available (different color balls are different locations)

Skill levels you can expect to play against

    The time of the session

The number of people currently signed up. Click on the circle to add yourself, any notes, and/or guests.
