SAYREVILLE - Each year, the Sayreville Alliance organizes Camp Willabee at the borough's police headquarters, bringing together a community of partners dedicated to preventing drug and alcohol use among children.

Teachers from Eisenhower, Wilson, Arleth, Truman, and Sayreville Upper schools dedicate their time each summer to run this enriching camp from June 26-28.

This year, 86 elementary school students participated in a variety of fun and educational programs, fostering positive interactions with Sayreville police officers.

"We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Police Administration for allowing the students to tour the police station, visit court and jail cells, engage with officers, and meet the State Police Mounted Unit," said Elyse Barone, the borough's recycling coordinator. "Through these activities, the students not only had a great time but also learned valuable life skills, such as resisting peer pressure and making positive choices."

This community outreach activity is funded through the borough's Municipal Alliance grant and from the Governors Council of New Jersey.

"The children had an amazing, fun-filled three-day experience," Barone said, noting the State Police Mounted Unit was a new addition this year for the camp.  There was also a magician as well as pertinent information about recycling.

"The children played games, made crafts, and learned valuable lessons about making friends, leading a healthy lifestyle, and being a prominent member of the community," Barone said.
