SAYREVILLE, NJ -- Sayreville Recreation celebrates Park and Recreation Month in July, highlighting how Sayreville is stronger, more vibrant, and more resilient because of parks and recreation.
To celebrate, the Recreation Department is launching Sayreville Stash’s Scavenger Hunt, a virtual, at-your-leisure event, held throughout July at the parks, where families will answer questions, take videos and photos of themselves doing various tasks, and finding and scanning QR codes.
Additional parks will be added each week, so be sure to check out the app weekly.
This event is free to all Sayreville families. To participate, families must download the Eventzee app to their mobile device and use code Sayreville2024 to join. Families earn points by completing various challenges. Families with the most points will win prizes. Full information regarding the virtual scavenger hunt and how to participate is available at sayrevillerec.com .
“We’re excited to participate in Park and Recreation Month this July, a time to celebrate the vital role our parks and recreational programs play in fostering community well-being,” said Brian VanDongen, Director of Sayreville Recreation. “We invite families to participate in our virtual event, Sayreville Stash’s Scavenger Hunt, this month to explore how parks and recreation can offer a haven for relaxation, exercise, and connection, making them essential to our quality of life.”
“"Parks and Recreation Month is a wonderful opportunity to highlight the importance of our parks in our daily lives,” noted Rich Poplowski, Parks Supervisor. “We encourage everyone to take advantage of the 28 parks in Sayreville.”
“I am proud of all the initiatives, new and old, that the Sayreville Recreation team organizes,” said Councilman Stanley Synarski, who is the liaison to the Recreation Department. “These are exciting times for Sayreville.”
Sayreville Stash's Scavenger Hunt is named for the mascot voted on by residents at Sayreville Centennial Day in 2021. He is a peregrine falcon, the fastest bird in the world that can dive at speeds up to 248 miles per hour. There are numerous banded peregrine falcons in Sayreville. These birds have recently been removed from the critically endangered list to threatened due to rehab programming.
