Starting in August, visitors to Heritage Park in Scappoose will be able to take advantage of warm summer evenings by attending “Movies by Moonlight,” an event that features five movies, along with a boatload of entertainment.

The free movies are held each Friday in August, beginning at dusk, with pre-movie events at 6 p.m.

The city says these flicks will be family friendly and will be shown with thematic activities and events each night.

The movies are "Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure" on Aug. 2, along with an air guitar contest and live music from The Decades.

"Wonka" will be shown the following Friday, Aug. 9, along with pizza bingo, which is sponsored by the Port of Columbia County.

Pencil in Aug. 16 when park goers will enjoy "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny." This evening will also feature movie trivia with film director Brian Trenchard-Smith.

On Aug. 23 it’s with "Gran Turismo", with Sweetwater performing.

Movies by Moonlight concludes Aug. 30 with the family-favorite "E.T." There will be an alien costume contest and free cake from Fred Meyer.

For those getting a little hungry at the event, $1 hot dogs and hamburgers will be grilled by members of the Scappoose Police Department, and movie snacks and beverages will be provided by the Scappoose Community Club.

No alcohol or smoking is allowed, but you are welcome to bring your own picnic to the movie event.

You can learn more about the event on the Scappoose Movies by Moonlight Facebook page. If you would like more information, contact Jeff Weiss at the Scappoose Library at 503-543-7123.

The series sponsors this year are Columbia River People's Utility District, Scappoose Grocery Outlet, city of Scappoose, Port of Columbia County, U.S. Bank, Means Nursery, Scappoose Police Department, Scappoose Library and Scappoose parks.
