    Two Scappoose residents die in Highway 30 crash

    A three-vehicle crash Friday morning, July 26, in Columbia County, killed two Scappoose residents. Others involved reported minor injuries.

    Oregon State Police responded to the crash on Highway 30, near milepost 51, shortly after 8 a.m. A preliminary investigation revealed that a westbound Kia Soul, operated by 54-year-old Bridget Ann Connell of Scappoose, was attempting to make a left hand turn into Valley Veterinary Clinic when it was rear ended by a westbound GMC Sierra operated by 56-year-old William Eugene Howard of Rainier.

    The Kia was pushed into the eastbound lane where it was struck head-on by an eastbound Dodge Journey operated by 33-year-old Jennifer Lynn Huff of Westport.

    Both Connell and passenger Nyx Ariel Connell, 47, were declared dead at the scene. Howard, operator of the GMC, sustained minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital.

    In the Dodge, Huff, a six-year-old boy and a 10-year-old girl suffered minor injuries and were also take to an area hospital.

    The crash, which is under investigation, impacted highway traffic for approximately six hours.

    The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon Department of Transportation and Columbia River Fire and Rescue assisted Oregon State Police at the scene.

    More information on the crash was not immediately available Monday, July 29.
