A man has been sentenced to life in prison after he was found guilty of murdering his mother and her boyfriend .

Nicholas Fiebka, 21, stood trial in June at Schenectady County Court where he was convicted of brutally slaying 59-year-old Alesia Wadsworth and 61-year-old William Horwedel in a double homicide in November 2022. Passing sentence on Friday (August 2) the judge ordered Fiebka to spend his life behind bars.

Fiebka gunned down his mother and her long-term partner in their home with their Ring camera capturing the moment the masked assailant barged into the property and fired a gun a minimum of 44 times in 24 seconds. Investigating officers managed to pinpoint that Fiebka was the killer after his cell phone records connected to the wifi in the residence and placed him in the same location at the same time as the murders.

Fiebka had moved out of the family home, but prior to his departure had made a series of threats against his mother. Christina Tremante representing the people called Fiebka one of the "the most dangerous people" the court had ever seen as she told the jury how in one incident he stood over his mother's bed wearing a mask and holding a hammer.

As she set the scene she described how the couple were going about their usual routine with Wadsworth unloading the dishwasher in the kitchen while Horwedel was reading the paper in the family room. She continued as she explained how 25 minutes later a masked man arrived on their porch carrying an AK-47 rifle and immediately began firing.

In just 24 seconds, 44 shots were fired, with the masked man leaving seconds after he finished shooting. The whole scene was and audio of the gunshots was recorded on the doorbell camera. Investigators described how they found Horwedel on the couch with Wadsworth in the kitchen.

State trooper and one of Horwedel’s sons, Jesse Horwedel, heartbreakingly told the court how he had sped to his father’s home on Tuesday, November 22, having heard on the police radio that a man had been found dead at the address. Upon arrival he described how he was prevented from entering the property by his fellow troopers and Schenectady County deputies.

He also admitted that at the scene he told investigators that he believed Fiebka was responsible for the gruesome deaths explaining that there was an “up and down” relationship between Wadsworth and Fiebka and that he had threatened her in the past. Fiebka called himself a “servant of God” as Schenectady County Court Judge Matthew Sypniewksi imposed the maximum sentence of life in prison without parole.

Sypniewski said: “You can act as stoic as you like, like you don’t care. You care, everybody that’s about to get locked up, get boxed up for the rest of their life - they care.”

Fiebka's attorney, Mark Sacco, previously argued that he could not be held crimially liable for the killings as he was suffering from mental delusions at the time. However, the jury rejected the claims agreeing with the prosecution that he was fully aware of his actions, described as a "culmination of years of torment he carried out against the couple."

At the time Tremante referred to testimony from a psychiatrist who had interviewed Fiebka 15 months on from the double homicide where he clamied he will never feel remorse and is “ready for the next chapter.”
