'26 OL Dean Ruksnaitis commits to Boston College
Boston College is holding their annual recruiting BBQ, and have already landed their first commitment from the event. On Thursday afternoon, Williston Northampton (Mass.) Wu Announces Expansion of Swim Safe Program Through Grant Opportunity
Mayor Michelle Wu, the City of Boston’s Human Services Cabinet, and Boston Centers for Youth & Families announced applications are now open for Swim Safe Boston grants to support non-profit organizations in Boston that provide free swim lessons for youth. The $250,000 in grant funding continues the City’s commitment to ensuring families have access to affordable, beginner-level swim lessons. Swim Safe was first announced in July of 2023, and since then has funded free swim lessons for over 1,500 youth. This number is in addition to the 2000+ youth that BCYF provided swim lessons to over the same time period.

Quality over quantity. That’s the mantra of this recruiting class. With all the turmoil of BC’s late stage coaching transition and the college football transfer portal writ large, we have ourselves a class primarily composed of kids that the current coach didn’t initially recruit. All of them, however, have stuck by and bought into what Bill O’Brien had to say to them. There is an opportunity here. It’s a big jump from high school to college, so as always there may not be much playing time this year (although there have been a number of exceptions for the Eagles these past few seasons), but glass half full the incoming freshmen may have more attention given and room to grow.

Granite Chin Promotions (GCP) has announced the signing of Everett junior welterweight “Showtime” Shea Willcox, a 2024 New England Golden Gloves Champion, to an exclusive promotional contract. He is scheduled to make his pro debut on September 13 in a GCP show in Bridgewater, Mass. The 22-year-old Willcox, who was a member of two of Everett High’s Super Bowl, Division One, football championship teams, was also selected as the “Most Outstanding Boxer” at this past February’s New England Golden Gloves Championships. He also was a 2018 Rocky Marciano Tournament Champion.
