Corps: federal levee system performing well against Missouri River flooding
(Omaha) -- U.S. Army Corps of Engineer officials say much of the federal levee system along the Missouri River has withstood the flooding over the past week. That was the message from the corps emergency management officials from the Omaha and Kansas City districts during a daily conference call Tuesday afternoon. Floodwaters that have worked down the Missouri River after torrential rains brought devastating flooding in northwest Iowa have also been the first test for the levee system that was repaired and upgraded following the 2019 Missouri River flooding throughout much of southwest Iowa, southeast Nebraska, and northwest Missouri. Spencer Giles is the emergency management chief with the corps' Omaha district. While they have been monitoring impacts from heavy rains this week, Giles says current river forecasts do not pose any risks to the federal levee system.

A new medical clinic is coming to downtown Norfolk after the city council passed a revised land swap agreement during Monday’s bimonthly meeting. The agreement — which swaps sections of existing city green space along Seventh Street between Norfolk and Braasch avenues for other pieces of land in the vicinity of roughly equivalent square footage — hit a few roadblocks after first being presented to the council early last month.

Nebraska offensive line target to announce commitment on July 5
A four-star offensive line prospect plans to announce his commitment later this week. Class of 2025 prospect SJ Alofaituli will announce his official decision on July 5. The 6-foot-3, 290-pound lineman will decide between Miami, Michigan, and Nebraska. He recently visited all three schools, traveling to Ann Arbor on June 7, Lincoln on June 14, and Miami on June 21. Multiple recruiting services project the Hurricanes as the front-runner for Alofaituli’s commitment. The lineman has also announced that he will play in the 2025 Under Armour All-America Game and the 2025 Polynesian Bowl. He has also confirmed that he will enroll early at whichever school he commits to. SJ Alofaituli will announce his commitment on YouTube on July 5 at 11:00 a.m. CT.
