SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — The Fourth of July celebrations are getting underway early in some parts of our area, including in the Electric City.

Thousands are expected to visit downtown for music, food, and fireworks on Wednesday.

“Yeah, the weather’s beautiful perfect for some lemonade,” said Emily Williams with Lacka Lemonade.

With temperatures in the 80s, this lemonade stand along Biden Street is hoping to drum up some business.

“We’re Lacka Lemonade, we’re a new lemonade business here in Lackawanna County. It’s our first summer doing this so we’re super excited to be part of the Scrantastic Spectacular,” Williams continued.

Thousands are expected to gather on Courthouse Square for the 12th Annual Scrantastic Spectacular.

“It is Independence Day, you’re supporting some small businesses, we have some great food some great vendors and really it’s going to be a great time with the fireworks tonight,” said Jennifer Smith with Dreams Travel Consulting.

It’s easy to spot red white and blue throughout the crowds.

Another way to beat the heat: Special Olympics Northeast Region has a cooling tent.

“It is hot out you can see I’m dripping so for at least a $10 donation they’re able to go into our cooling tent where we have fan misters as well as water balloons,” Executive Director of the Special Olympics Northeast Region Heather Shriner said.

They call it the Polar Pop, their riff on the Polar Plunge.

There are plenty of bounce houses and other free activities for kids.

Immerse yourself with live entertainment on the side stage on Biden Street and head to the main stage at 8:00 p.m. for a live performance by the Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic on North Washington Avenue.

“It’s a beautiful day. I mean I’m psyched I really think a lot of people just want to get out come out and enjoy the weather come out and have some great food down here,” said Chris Hoolican with Ray’s Porketta.

End the night with a spectacular fireworks display launching from the Linden Street Garage above Catch 21 at 9:30 p.m.

For the best viewing of fireworks, you’ll want to be on North Washington Avenue or Linden Street.
