SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Scranton Police arrested a man who officers allege punched his mother in the face and attempted to stab her.

On Saturday, July 6, the Scranton Police Department was called to the 800 block of Hickory Street for a reported assault between a mother and her son.

The affidavit explains that Officers spoke with Mary Ruhle who claimed her 47-year-old son, William Zawicki, woke her by choking her and proceeding to punch her repeatedly.

Authorities say Zawicki then grabbed a knife and attempted to cut her throat while telling her “It’s all her fault,” and that she did not defend him in a recent argument he had with his brother.

Ruhle told police that Zawicki eventually put the knife down, grabbed her phone, and threw it at her while yelling at her to call the police.

According to the complaint, Ruhle led police upstairs where they found three knives on the bed as well as a tooth.

Ruhle told police it seemed like her tooth fell out when Zawicki was punching her in the face.

Zawicki was then arrested by police and arraigned Sunday morning by Magisterial District Judge Sean P. McGraw.

Court Documents say Zawicki is facing multiple charges for the incident, including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, terroristic threats, simple assault, and harassment.

Zawickis was unable to post the $100,000 bail set by Judge McGraw and is currently being held in the Lackawanna County Prison.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Zawicki on July 17.
