SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)— Weston Field in Scranton is making great progress as preparations for a new pool facility and skate park are underway.

The old structures have been demolished, paving the way for new developments.

Scranton City Council has approved contracts with the companies responsible for building both the pool and the skate park.

“We’re back filling with some clean fill and good earth to set this table for the next group of contractors to come in and actually start the project. We don’t have a skate park anywhere besides wilkes-barre, an official one, so this is gonna draw people from all up and down the eastern side of Pennsylvania and maybe even from other states and areas. Hopefully come and see, bring them into the community, see the positive changes we’re making, boost our economy with the tourism as well as just be a positive outlet for the kids. Its all about the kids,” stated Scott Gasenmeyer, Director of Parks and Recreation.

These new facilities are anticipated to be open by 2026, providing the community with much-needed recreational spaces.
