The City of Scranton plans to repeal a 4 decades long residency requirement that requires municipal employees to live in the Electric City. According to reports, Mayor Paige Gebhardt Cognetti sent Scranton City Council a proposed ordinance to repeal the residency requirement across the board, for all city employees, including administrative employees not in any union. Mayor Cognetti said the residency requirement is impeding the city's ability to retain and attract quality employees to the City of Scranton. Council on Tuesday voted 3-2, with President Gerald Smurl, Bill King and Jessica Rothchild all in favor of the repeal, and Mark McAndrew and Tom Schuster opposed.
