Maya Jenkins, Scranton Prep’s two-time, Class 4A all-state girls basketball selection from Old Forge, helped the NEPA Elite AAU program out of Riverfront Sports in Scranton continue its history of success in the Hoop Group Showcase League.

NEPA Elite went 28-8 and finished fourth in the HGSL 17U Showcase Division, the organization’s highest level of competition. NEPA Elite won the first two HGSL 17U titles in 2020 and 2021, then reached the championship game in 2022. This year’s team made it back to the semifinals after the club did not qualify for the postseason championship playoffs a year ago.

Jenkins averaged two 3-pointers per game. She had a team-high 15 points on 5-for-7 shooting from the floor in the 53-44 , semifinal loss to iDream 17U.

The guard, who is entering her senior season, had 10 points in a 59-37 victory over Elevate Elite in the July 19 tournament opener. Jenkins then had seven points and three assists in a 48-41 victory over New Jersey Soldiers in the next round.

Jewlya McCullon from Old Forge played for the NEPA Elite 17U Butler team, which finished strong, winning two of its HGSL Championship Weekend games over opponents it had lost two by double-figures margins during the regular season.

Lily Hintze from Pittston Area was part of the NEPA Elite 16U Scoblick team that finished fourth in the HGSL 16U Showcase League, also reaching the championship semifinals in Atlantic City last weekend to wrap up its season.
