On Monday, July 15, some of the "girls" from the Port Chester High School Class of 1961 had a lovely lunch at Sergios's Saw Pit in Port Chester. Albertson’s Henry Viscardi School Receives Additional $522,000 in State Funding
Speaker Carl Heastie (D-Bronx) and Assemblymember Gina Sillitti (D-Port Washington) announced additional funding for the Henry Viscardi School during a recent stop on the speaker’s annual statewide tour, bringing the school’s state funding to 1.25 million dollars, according to a press release from Speaker Heastie and Assemblymember Silitti’s offices.
Manhasset Parent Association For Special Education Receives Grant
The Manhasset Parent Association for Special Education (PASE) would like to thank the Manhasset Community Fund for their generous grant to our non-profit organization. Manhasset PASE was founded in 1990 to support the needs of special education students in the district. Our mission is to be a driving force in the development and enhancement of special education programs offered in Manhasset. The grant from the Manhasset Community Fund will allow us to fund programs that directly impact and benefit special education students in Manhasset. With this grant, we will be able to continue to provide programs, workshops and scholarships to our special education students and their families. It is with sincere gratitude and deep appreciation that we thank the Manhasset Community Fund for their continued support and generous grant to our organization.
New diploma criteria shape the future of education
As the 2024-25 school year begins, there are two significant changes that have the potential to shape the future of education: the implementation of new criteria to earn a high school diploma, and the revision of the foundation aid formula. These developments represent both challenges and opportunities, and their successful implementation will require the active engagement of our entire community.
Pleines Piano Students Perform In Recital And Win National Honors
Port Washington piano students of Ruth Pleines’s multi-media studio were featured at the 44th annual recital on Saturday, June 8, at Shelter Rock Church in Manhasset. Family and friends enjoyed the pianists’ choice of solos and duets reflecting the various musical eras—Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Contemporary, including popular and jazz.
New Rochelle Youth Eco-Ambassadors to Host Middle Schoolers for a Day of Marine Science on the Sound at Five Islands Park
On Thursday, July 18th, the New Rochelle Youth Bureau Eco-Ambassadors will host 150 middle schoolers from Mercy College’s STEM program for a day of coastal science activities at Five Islands Park. State education officials could potentially do away with the Regents exam, as part of its vision to provide multiple pathways to a high school diploma. The changes, if implemented, could alter the existing graduation requirements for public schools across the state — including in Rockville Centre, where alternative pathways such as Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate diplomas are already offered.
Hofstra Student-Athletes Honored on CAA Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll
Hempstead, NY – 298 Hofstra University student-athletes were named to the Coastal Athletic Association Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll for the Spring 2024 semester. The conference announced 3,876 student-athletes from across its CAA member institutions. Student-athletes named to the Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll must have participated in a CAA-sponsored sport, attained a minimum grade point average of 3.0 during the designated academic term, and have been enrolled as a full-time student. Greenwich United Way’s Reading Champions Celebrates 16th Graduation
The Greenwich United Way’s Reading Champions program completed its 16th year of literacy support, helping improve reading fluency among Greenwich elementary students. A committed partner to Greenwich Public Schools (GPS), Reading Champions is the largest volunteer-driven early literacy program in town. In the 2023-2024 school year, 120 volunteers supported 350 students with one-on-one tutoring sessions in all 11 Greenwich Public Schools and five after-school programs.
