Officials: 'Cache of weapons' found in Seaford home

First responders were called to a van fire outside a Cedar Street home in Seaford Saturday night and wound up discovering dozens of weapons.

It was after the fire started spreading toward the house, authorities said, that firearms and a large amount of ammunition were found in the living room. Charles Musarra, 62, is now facing multiple charges.

According to court documents the defendant “did give verbal and written consent to search the premise which resulted in a total of 67 firearms. It was further determined that 57 of the firearms violate the NY Safe Act and are considered Assault Weapons based on being able to accept a detachable magazine and various attachments on each. Of the 67, 31 do not bear any serial number and are un-traceable.” Those are known as ghost guns.

Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly said that the “amount of death” that could come from a cache of weapons like this “is truly unfathomable.” She said ghost guns have become an “epidemic” and vowed to try her hardest to put an end to it.

According to court documents, 157 high-capacity magazines, thousands of rounds of ammunition, two silencers, 17 lower receivers, one metal knuckle knife, two daggers, one switchblade and various firearm parts were found in the house.

At Musarra’s arraignment, his attorney said those who know him say he’s a “stand-up” man who is strong and the first to offer help. A judge set bail at $75,000 cash or $150,000 bond.
